How long should I wait to test my wine after putting in campden tablets to stop yeast growth?

I mixed in some crushed tablets to stop growth in my wine. How long do I need to wait to test it? Is the campden going to hurt me if I don’t wait 24 hours for it to deactivate?
Yes, I tested specific gravity. Its done, so I added the campden to stop growth. Its been 24 hours.. so Im not worried anymore, but yes I meant how long to wait after adding campden to taste it? Is it toxic to drink before the 24 hours are up?
